I went skeet shooting with 6 military men, Ezra, and one 14-year-old boy this past Saturday.  While I was completely out of my element and I only hit 4 clay pigeons of the 100 or so that I aimed for with Jim's 20-gauge shotgun, I learned that the principles of excellence are essentially the same ones I know:

Shoot for the apex.

Relax in order to succeed.

The basic skills have to become ingrained before your shot lands.

Listen carefully and learn quickly.

Don't become frustrated; continue to have fun.

And this wasn't said aloud, but I understood it to be the biggest lesson of the day:

Approach everyone and everything with an open heart.
