For the past 15 years, Springer has hosted over 5,000 kids to study theatre from 9 am - 4 pm in two-, three-, or four-week camps. The kids rotate through SIX (!) different fields of study every day. Theatre is the draw to the camp, but the reason students and families return year after year - every teacher encourages students to risk daily, to practice commitment and generosity and trust, to applaud both successes and failures.
And this is the main reason why I'm thrilled to be spending my summer with this group. We're cultivating the most important (and most rarely talked about) skill for an artist - the need to risk, to fail, and to learn.
My task for the day: continue sifting through classical texts and find material appropriate for students 5th - 12th grade!!
